JO-2024: Paris is an Olympic celebration

Paris (AFP) - An Estanguet-Hidalgo duo aboard a canoe on the Seine, a 100m on the water won by Teddy Riner: from the Invalides to the Pont Alexandre III via the Petit Palais, the setting for the Olympic Games blended into the heritage of Paris on Friday, to promote the French capital's candidacy for the Olympics-2024.

"This is the first time in my life that I crossed Paris by canoe, I had a great time with Anne" Hidalgo, the mayor of the city, confides the three-time Olympic canoe-kayak champion, co-chairman of the committee of application Paris 2024.

And to add on her partner of the day: "She has very good reflexes, I felt that she was doing sports even if I was giving the instructions".

In the race against Los Angeles to host the 2024 Games, Paris wanted to make a difference on World Olympics Day on Friday, by not skimping on beautiful images and sports stars.Paris City Hall, 320,000 spectators attended the festivities throughout the day.

Los Angeles also celebrated World Olympism Day by organizing activities on a beach in Pacific Palisades, about thirty kilometers from downtown, for 500 children in the Californian metropolis.

In Paris, with the announcer of Roland-Garros, Marc Maury, in the animation, the Seine as the main axis - and the monuments which border it - 33 disciplines were represented.

In the Invalides, outdoor sports: rugby, baseball, archery, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

At the Pont Alexandre III, a diving board was inaugurated by pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie then the public could admire the jumps of the pros, like the French Cyrille if posed on the water, and a race won by the judo champion Teddy Riner, neck-to-neck with Renaud Lavillenie.
